Exceptional renovation of spacious family house on Putney riverside, London

Although this stunning renovation was completed a few years ago, it has stood the test of time exceptionally well. This large Victorian detached house was completely refurbished and Original Bathrooms were asked to design and supply the new bathrooms. Working to the client’s brief to create five bathroom spaces that were beautiful, individual and contemporary yet practical, Original Bathrooms designed rooms that incorporated the latest materials and the best sanitaryware from top European manufacturers. Every bathroom was quite different in order to give an interesting, eclectic feel to each. One of the main design challenges was to create bathrooms that, while contemporary, would not ‘age’ quickly but retain their freshness for many years. The Original Bathrooms’ team achieved this thanks to their years of design experience and first-class product knowledge. Moving from the subdued and subtle ambiance of the basement bathroom and cloakroom to the bright décor of the second floor bathroom, each room design was unique and yet, by consistent use of the same sanitaryware, skillfully retained an underlying continuity throughout.

(1) The deceptively spacious basement bathroom was designed to be reminiscent of Moorish architecture and opulence. It is fitted with a Bauhaus underslung washbasin in a Polar vanity top and a Hans Grohe basin mixer. The fully tiled walk-in shower incorporates a Majestic shower door and Hans Grohe shower fittings with a full-height wall-mounted Bisque towel radiator.

(2) The downstairs cloakroom is a warm, cosy room fitted with a sculptured Agape ‘Gabbiano’ wengé washbasin and Fantini ‘Giritondo’ panel-mounted taps, Flaminia ‘Link’ wc and Bisque ‘Spring’ wall-mounted radiator. While contemporary in design, the room is also easy to maintain with ceramic floor tiling throughout.

(3) On the first floor, the main bathroom was designed to continue the theme of indulgence with the use of luxurious Imperial Marone marble surfaces and splashbacks around the washbasin and bath. Using a Bauhaus underslung basin and Bette ‘Starlette’ bath with Fantini ‘Stilo’ taps and high-level Bisque towel rail, this bathroom is truly indulgent yet surprisingly calm and relaxing with its bold scheme of dark and light colourways.

(4) The second floor bathroom is completely different from the other bathrooms. It is bright and airy with mirrored cream coloured wall and floor units to reflect the light. The Bette ‘Starlette’ bath and Bauhaus washbasins were fitted under pale Calacatta Oro marble tops with matching upstands. Fantini fittings were used for both basins and bath with a Bisque ‘D-rail’ wall-mounted towel radiator.

(5) On the third floor of this
spacious family home is the
fitness area. Briefed to create
a shower area in a small
space, Original Bathrooms
have done just that by creating
a unique, contemporary
shower cubicle from glass
block walls and a Majestic
shower door. Fun is the theme
here with the eclectic Boffi
‘Gaston’ shower unit in the
shape of a ‘waitress’ figure.
The Original Bathrooms
shower tray is of traditional
fireclay and the full-height
heated towel rail is by Bisque.

This challenging project was exciting and demanding for
Original Bathrooms who also oversaw the installation of all five bathrooms. By being on site to advise the client’s team of fitters, Original Bathrooms ensured that the highest standards of workmanship were maintained and that the work was completed on time and on budget.
